So as some of you were aware back in the day I used to customize some of my Joes. I found this one in my eldest son's Joe tote. He is my last custom I did years ago. Not the greatest but wanted to convey that digi camo look. If I recall I used an olive drab then used the sponge method for the sand and brown colors. Again just a poor man's version of a custom. Lol

Thank you sir! I doubt I will get back into customizing as I really do not have the time. But I do admit I still have a small desire to get back into it.

I am not good enough to paint figures. But weathering accessories and vehicles can be therapeutic. It's relaxing to lightly paint and smudge around a wheel well, knowing that the kicked up mud spatter doesn't have to be 100% perfect like eyes or a mustache. It's fun, and it shows up well in a photograph.

Yeah I have noticed with the customs that I have done in the past is the camera is also unforgiving. I notice some of the blue is showing from joints being moved and all. Easier to tell from a blown up picture versus eyeing it in person in some cases. lol

And I am also terrible at painting but did enjoy the sponge method. I have seen some very talented customizers hand paint digi camo where lazy ones like me used the sponge.

First up is my Coil OR Copperhead brigade Crimson Guard Immortal. I used the spray testors model paint, and i sanded all of the joints before painting. so far no chipping at all.

Dude those look great! I know several customizers sand joints before painting. Unfortunately I was one who did not and I think it showed. lol

On the topic of sanding joints what grit size did you use?

I used fine grit and it worked pretty good, but it don't really matter along as they get a bit sanded down.

What does everybody use to strip off all the paint on a fully painted figure? I cannot remember what I used back in the day but I recall having a few Cobra Troopers I had painted, was unhappy with them and started to strip the paint from them. Wasn't that great as it also stripped the Cobra sigil from their chests.

Andrea suggested going and getting a cheap figure and testing out several things on different parts, such as mineral spirits. It probably depends on if you used water based or oil based paint. I personally have done so few customs i have never considered stripping. Maybe YTJ or proto have some ideas.
