Hello everybody. Happy Easter. Easter is a time of rebirth and renewed life as the Earth comes out of its Winter months and everything comes back to life. I watched the 2003 documentary “Touching The Void” over the weekend and it is a remarkable true story about 2 young rock climbers who nearly died scaling the icy face of Siula Grande in the Peruvian Andes. 2 young men Joe Simpson and Simon Yates set out to climb the glacial mountain in 1985 and become the first to make it to the peak. The journey to the top would be their most difficult climb and most rewarding. A trip they knew would take days and preparing and planing out food and water was crucial. The trip to the top although one of their most difficult climbs ever would prove successful as they reached the top. As they boiled a pot of snow for drinking water they reflected on the once in a lifetime view from the top. They packed up and got ready to go home. Anyone who has ever climbed up on anything knows that it is more difficult to climb back down. The frozen snow drifts and extreme weather made it extremely difficult to come down. On the way down Joe suffered a fall and broke his leg. Simon worked tirelessly to get Joe down the mountain and in an extreme situation he made a hard decision to cut the rope that bound the two men together. Both men were left to descend on their own not knowing if the other was dead or alive. Both faced the mountain alone and the remarkable story of survival, death, and rebirth was captured perfectly in this documentary. If you have never seen it you can find it on Tubi. It truly is an amazing story. Have a great week everybody.
