A STAR TREK ORIGIN MOVIE IS COMING IN 2025 FROM ‘ANDOR’ AND ‘DOCTOR WHO’ DIRECTOR TOBY HAYNES

Post by Kal-El »

A Star Trek origin story is on the horizon for 2025, with director Toby Haynes, known for his work on “Andor” and “Doctor Who,” set to helm the project. J.J. Abrams, the director behind the 2009 reboot of “Star Trek,” is on board as a producer.

The announcement was made during Paramount’s presentation at CinemaCon, as relayed by Collider’s Steve Weintraub and Britta DeVore. Seth Grahame-Smith will handle the screenplay for this prequel, which promises to delve into the early history of the Star Trek universe.

While specific plot details are scant, it’s confirmed to be an “origin story” set decades prior to the events of Abrams’ 2009 film, which unfolded in 2255. This likely means a departure from the cast of the reboot, as Paramount has faced challenges assembling them for a fourth installment, despite efforts to do so.

However, hope isn’t lost for fans eagerly awaiting another chapter. Paramount recently enlisted Steve Yockey, known for “The Flight Attendant,” to pen a new script for a potential fourth film, and the cast has expressed enthusiasm for a reunion. Zoe Saldaña, for instance, has voiced her willingness to return for another adventure aboard the USS Enterprise.

The period preceding Kirk’s iconic missions aboard the Enterprise offers ample narrative potential. With the founding of the United Federation of Planets in 2161, there’s nearly a century of untold stories ripe for exploration. From conflicts with the Romulan Star Empire to the tensions with the Klingons, there’s a rich backdrop awaiting cinematic exploration.

Haynes and Grahame-Smith inherit a canvas brimming with possibility. Haynes, with his experience on “Doctor Who,” “Sherlock,” and “Black Mirror,” brings a knack for imaginative storytelling, while Grahame-Smith’s credits include “Pride & Prejudice & Zombies” and “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.”

Anticipation is high for this new chapter in the Star Trek saga. As details continue to emerge, fans eagerly await further updates from Collider and other sources. Stay tuned for more on this exciting journey into the origins of one of science fiction’s most beloved franchises.
